Attorney Kenny S. Ramirez Awarded the CAOIE Streetfighter of the Year Award

Attorney Kenny S. Ramirez was recently honored with the 2026 CAOIE Streetfighter of the Year Award at the Consumer Attorneys of Inland Empire (CAOIE) Awards Ceremony, held during the CAOC/CAOIE/OCOTLA Seminar on May 2, 2026.

The award recognizes small firms and young attorneys who take on challenging, high-stakes cases and fight tirelessly for their clients. Kenny received the honor in recognition of his work in Monzon, Wilson v. LAUSD, et al., a case that resulted in a $1.5 million settlement for a young client who suffered a traumatic brain injury during a school-supervised activity.

In the interview below, Kenny discusses receiving the 2026 CAOIE Streetfighter of the Year Award, the case that led to the recognition, and the importance of advocating for injured clients and their families.

What Is the CAOIE Streetfighter of the Year Award?

The CAOIE Streetfighter of the Year Award is presented by Consumer Attorneys of Inland Empire to attorneys who demonstrate exceptional advocacy, determination, and commitment to their clients. The award recognizes lawyers who are willing to take difficult cases, prepare them for trial, and stand up to powerful defendants when justice is on the line.

Receiving this award is a significant honor because it reflects not only legal skill but also the perseverance required to achieve meaningful results in complex cases. For Kenny Ramirez, the recognition highlights a commitment to ensuring injured individuals receive fair treatment and access to justice, regardless of the challenges involved.

The Case: Monzon, Wilson v. LAUSD, et al.

The case that ultimately secured Attorney Ramirez the award involved a minor who suffered a mild traumatic brain injury after being struck in the head with a golf club during an after-school activity supervised by school personnel.

Prior to Kenny Ramirez Law Firm Personal Injury Lawyers becoming involved, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) had made a final settlement offer of $250,000. The case was then referred to the firm for trial shortly before expert designations.

Taking over the matter at that stage required extensive work. The firm handled expert discovery, depositions, trial preparation, and the development of a strategy designed to fully present the impact the injury had on the young client’s life. As the trial date approached, the legal team continued to build the case and prepare for courtroom litigation.

Securing a $1.5 Million Settlement

The firm’s preparation and willingness to take the case to trial ultimately made a significant difference. Just one week before trial, the parties reached a $1.5 million settlement. The recovery represented a substantial increase from the defendant’s previous $250,000 offer and reflected the seriousness of the client’s injuries and future challenges.

Cases involving traumatic brain injuries often require extensive medical evidence, expert testimony, and detailed preparation. By thoroughly developing the case and preparing it for trial, the firm was able to achieve a result that more accurately reflected the harm suffered by the client.

Why This Case Was Especially Meaningful

While the outcome was significant, the case held special meaning for the firm for another reason. The client and his family immigrated from Guatemala to pursue greater opportunities in the United States. That story resonated deeply with Kenny and his family, who also share Guatemalan roots.

One accident that should have been prevented changed the course of the young man’s life. Despite the challenges he has faced, he has remained resilient and focused on his future. Today, he continues to pursue higher education with the goal of improving his life and helping support his family.

Representing this client was a reminder of why personal injury advocacy matters; every person deserves to be seen, heard, and treated fairly under the law.

Kenny Ramirez is grateful to CAOIE for this recognition and congratulates the other distinguished award recipients honored at the ceremony.

The 2026 Judge of the Year Award was presented to Hon. Harold Hopp of the Riverside Superior Court. The 2026 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award was presented to Brian Panish of Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP.

Their contributions to the legal profession and dedication to justice continue to make a meaningful impact throughout California’s legal community.
